Do you want to change the FM band on your Artemis?
To my surprise, it is indeed possible! …
… An xda-developers forum contributor with the nick name Adenin came with a nice tweak that can change the FM band range in HTC Artemis. The registry modifications are the following:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer\Band
0 = 87.5 – 108.0 MHz
1 = 76.0 – 108.0 MHz
2 = 76.0 – 91.0 MHz
You can also set frequency direct in HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer\ChannelValue = MHz * 10 (=> 1100 = 110.0 MHz )

What drains your battery most?
While browsing the WindowsMobile blog archive, I found two articles describing what component or part of your PDA and smartphone (i.e. touchscreen, backlight, CPU, LED etc.) drains your battery most. Both articles are available here and here. The latter one also describes the difference in power management of smartphones and PDA’s. Very interesting readings

Two GPS utilities …
Recentely I tested two GPS utilities for WindowsMobile PDA‘s. The first of them is called VisualGPSce and works very well on HTC Artemis. VisualGPSce is GPS software that displays GPS data in both text and graphical form. Moreover, the data can be exported into a file. You can find more information here.
The second utility I was testing on HTC Artemis is called GPSAuto. Installation runs OK but while trying to access the GPS, the utility freezes and PDA has to be restarted. It is a pity as I would welcome some advanced speed-watching software. Anyway, the product pages are here.

My TomTom menu
After a few weeks of using TomTom Navigator 6, I was able to rearrange the application and settings menu. I believe that handling of the application is now much more comfortable than it was with the default settings. For customizing the TomTom menu, I used a program called TomTom Menu Designer. If you are interested you can download my TomTom.mnu file here; TomTom Menu Designer is available here. When you finish your own TomTom.mnu, you have to copy the file into the root directory of your PDA into the TomTom/SdkRegistry folder. If you want to get back the default TomTom menu, you just delete the TomTom.mnu file or the folders.

Do you know TeleAtlas?
One of the companies that TomTom uses for their navigation maps is TeleAtlas. Recently I have been searching the TeleAtlas website and found some interesting information there. What hit my eyes at the very beginning was a product datasheet with detailed European maps descriptions. Here are some of the details for CZE maps (i.e. Czech Republic, Product Release MultiNet 2007.01):

DUN missing …
In this list of bluetooth profiles that are supported by HTC Artemis, I did not mention probably one of the most „famous“ profiles called DUN (the abbreviation stands for Dial-Up Networking). The reason was that it is missing in the Artemis‘ bluetooth stack. A very good explanation of how DUN was substituted by PAN can be found here. The change is present in all AKU3 ROM’s that are installed in WindowsMobile 2005 devices. As mentioned in the text, the problem is that not all other bluetooth devices can handle PAN. Further information here.
